During the Summer of 2016, I had the pleasure to provide design (and a little strategic) support to Kai Degner’s U.S. Congressional campaign in Virginia. Unfortunately, he did not win (he was up against a heavily entrenched opponent in a predominently Republican district) but his campaign was an excellent experiment in bringing the kinds of engagement techniques I championed through NCDD to the political arena. Below is a scrapbook of many of the items I created for him, using his signature “orange and steel blue” palette.
Just what is it that you do?
For those unaware, I co-founded and served as creative director of the National Coalition for Dialogue & Deliberation from 2002 – 2016, and I still support the organization when I can. Since 2015, I have also branched out to support other engagement-based programs as designer, editorial supervisor, and strategic planner.
For those in need of freelance…
- creative design & planning,
- promotional consultation,
- online media support,
- good old-fashioned editorial & writing talent,
- or advanced publication development,
…I offer the skills I cultivated creating & supporting NCDD.
How much do you charge?
My base rate is $65 an hour for online media creation, strategic planning, and project development. My project development consultation rate is $130 per hour. I also have what I call a “sub-rate” of $45 an hour for more time-consuming project support work (basic design, copy writing & editing, and communication tasks) which I offer through my $500 and $1000 a month retainer plans, especially suitable for both open-ended and time comsuming projects.
Do you provide discounts for NCDD members?
Yes! I offer my discount retainer rates to members of the organization I co-founded, and I am happy to provide greater flexibility and expanded availability to work with engagement-oriented organizations and programs.
I’m not sure what my project requires…
For all potential projects, I offer a free consultation call where you can pick my brain on what your project or program might need.
How can I take advantage of your retainer rates?
My retainer rates are meant to offer a discount to small projects with no specific deadline or larger projects that need support over a longer period of time. Through the retainer, I provide a flexible schedule over a thirty day period and, if the project needs more time, the retainer will require renewal each month. However, the retainer needs to be paid at the beginning of each month and the project will be worked on at my convenience. On average, I provide a maximum of 10 to 15 hours for the $500 retainer and 20 to 25 hours for the $1000 retainer, however I find the final hours count is far less important than the needs of the project.
